FROM THE ADMINISTRATOR

Greetings,

This was a very trying month for both me and Jimbo – but we got through it and life goes on!

We had a really good super bowl party and food.  Valentines Dinner was put together with a fine crew – thank you Bridget and crew.

Please let me or Robbie know if you would like to put your name in to run for an office.  Positions open are Governor,  Jr Governor, Prelate, Treasurer and 3 Year Trustee.  We also need a Sgt at Arms.

We are doing fair signing up new members. But, we are still short of our quota.  It would be great if we could fill our quota this year.

That is about all.

In closing, don’t forget our troops !!

Aloha,

Bob Demond

Administrator

FROM THE GOVERNOR

Hi Everybody,

Another month under our belt. I hope everyone enjoyed Super Bowl. I would like to congratulate New Orleans on a great game. Who Dat! I hope everyone had a good time!

I know everyone had fun at the Valentines dinner and dance. Thanks to Bridget, Joan, Judy, Diana, and Bruce. The homemade dinner was great, and sold out two minutes before the end of the two hours. Thanks to Karen and Darlene for doing the 50/50. Five Star did a nice job. I would like to thank all of the members, and there were a lot of you, for attending and supporting the event, and all of the events that we put on. It takes a great deal of work to put on these functions. Thanks to the LOOM who supported the function and made it possible to provide such an excellent meal at such a great value. Congratulations to Al and Claudette Burns who were voted Valentine King and Queen.

This month we have several things on the calendar. We are trying something new this year, we are going to have St. Patrick's Day on the actual day, which falls on a Wednesday!  We will serve corned beef and cabbage from 5:00-8:00 pm. Stop by and enjoy a hot dinner.

There will be a district Chili cook off at Anaheim on March 20. Starts at 10:00 am.  Bridget and I may be out of town for our anniversary, but I would sure like to see some people represent Garden Grove.

A lot of us will be attending the CA/NV midyear convention in Reno, March 25,-28. I hope to see a lot of you there. I will bring back updated information and present a report at the next meeting.

I would like to thank Bob Demond. I don't think anyone realizes how much time and work goes into all of our events. A lot of our events start days before the actual function. The shopping, the set up, the decorating, and the clean up, all in addition to the event itself. Thank you not only to Bob, but to all of you who give of your time to put on events for our members. I would also like to give a special thanks Shim for our website and Jackie for our newsletter every month.

Garden Grove won the attendance award for the district meeting in February! The district meeting will be held at our lodge on March 7.  Bridget and I will be doing breakfast. I hope you all come out and join us!  Upcoming dates are April 10, for our Moose Legion Celebration at La Habra starting  at 4:00 pm. You do not have to be part of the Legion to support this function. I hope to see a lot of you there! And April 11, will be our district meeting also at La Habra.. Check your calendar for all of this months events.

PS Dallas cowboy hats for sale! Cheap!

Your Governor,

Keith Robinson

FROM THE SENIOR REGENT’S DESK

Hello Everyone,

Well here it is – the month of “The Wearing of the Green”, Irish Whiskey, Green Beer and kissing the Blarney Stone!  I know everyone can handle the first three but since we are not in Ireland – kissing the Blarney Stone – just use your imagination and improvise!!

The lodge will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day on Wednesday, March 17 with a Corn Beef and Cabbage dinner beginning at 5:00 p.m.  Come on down and enjoy the festivities. (Don’t forget to wear GREEN)

I want to thank Bridget and her crew for a great Valentine’s dinner and the Loom for getting “5 Star” to play that night.  Congratulations to the King and Queen of the evening.  Again, my heartfelt thanks to everyone who volunteered last month – you all are what hold this lodge & chapter together!

On Saturday, March 13th at 2:00 p.m. the WOTM will be presenting a “Green Cap” ceremony honoring Paula Shimizu.  Lunch will follow and there will be door prizes for the lucky ticket holders.

Come and join the WOTM on Friday the 19th for our Family Involvement Dinner presented by Darlene Greer and crew.  We all know what a great cook she is so don’t miss this!

I want to congratulate Rita Miles for receiving her pin for sponsoring 25 co-workers.  Keep it going Rita – your doing a great job!

I also want to congratulate Peggy Mahoney – my Recorder who earned her "STAR” degree.  She does a fantastic job!!!!

If you have never held a position on the Board of Officers – NOW IS THE TIME!  Without a Board we have no Chapter and without a Chapter – well we don’t want that to happen so we are having the last Nominating meeting on Tuesday 3/2/10 at 6:30 before our General Meeting. We will have our officer’s election on Tuesday 3/16/10 at 6:00 before the Business Meeting.

That’s about it for now - until next time-

Membership Membership Membership !!!!

Xmas is almost here! Why not consider purchasing a membership in our lodge for one of your friends, relatives or associates. Now is a great time to sponsor someone because the $20 application fee is waived. This means you can sign someone for only $40 total for a year’s dues in our lodge. What a great present!

As you know, there are many membership campaigns from Moose International, our state association and lodge offering great incentives for signing a new or former member into our fraternity. One of these campaigns is from Moose International. Every time you sponsor a member your name goes into a drawing that is held weekly and if your name is drawn, the lodge or chapter will receive a $500 check to be used as the membership deems appropriate. We have a winner! Clovis Glenn’s name was drawn and the lodge received a check for $500.Thanks to Clovis for signing a member. To show our appreciation for his efforts, Clovis will receive a free year’s dues from this money and the rest will be used for improvements in our lodge. To everyone, keep signing members as the rewards are great.  Merry Xmas to all!

Jim Jamieson,

Membership Chairman

We need some of the following NEW items: energy Drink mixes, non-perishable snacks, DVDs, etc. Also for the women and children, we can use sewing supplies; pins, needles, thread, etc. Also pencils, pens, notebooks, coloring books, small toys and stuffed animals, etc.
Drop them off at the lodge, I will box them and mail them. This is a wonderful community service project that our lodge can be proud of taking part in.

FUNDRAISERS

Here are two fundraisers that all our members can participate in. Just “Shop” and “Save”. By saving box tops and labels from products manufactured by General Mills and Campbell’s family products our members help to support Moose Education projects. Please visit our website www.loom620.org  (Moose Charities) for more information. Once you have saved the box tops and labels you can mail them to me and I will be happy to send them to Moose International for you. Send them to:

LOOM / WOTM Needs Your Help !!!

The Message is Membership Membership !!!

“It’s a New Year!   Both the LOOM and WOTM need new members in order to make lodge and chapter honors for 2008/2009.  Now is the time to sign-up and enroll that new member. You already know about our fraternity and the good we do for Mooseheart and Moosehaven.

Your help is needed to bring in new members.  Be sure to explain to a potential member all the benefits they can enjoy as a Moose member.  As a member they can save money at motels/hotels across the nation, car rentals, car insurance, Sherwin-Williams paint, drug prescriptions and many other benefits. In fact, most of these benefits would save more money than you would pay for your yearly membership card. So sign-up that new member and make 620 and  1117  proud”.

LOOM / WOTM

     Karaoke Night

I was recently asked if we still had Karaoke on Friday and Saturday nights.  Unless a special event is scheduled, the answer is YES and NO !!!

Interest in Karaoke has declined in recent months so our officers have decided to offer Karaoke on a "on request" basis. Once the lodge finds that  there is more participation, Karaoke will be offered on a regular basis. So if you decide that you would like to request a Karaoke evening please notify one of the lodge officers so that someone will be available to handle your request.

From the Legion 203

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who are members of the Moose Legion. Your Legion membership supports many programs at Mooseheart. You also support one of my favorite programs, "Camp Ross" where the kids get a chance to "get away" and enjoy the camp and all that it offers. The Legion is now a "higher degree of service", and the next step to the "Fellowship, and Pilgrim Degree".

For those of you who have not advanced to the Legion and are eligible, please think about joining us, we are the "degree of service"."

Thank you....

Leonard Chapman

President Legion #203

Thanks So Much !!!

I would like to personally thank Peggy for help in the cooking,  Mike for “pearl diving”, Pat and Sue for the excellent job they did as your waitresses.

THANK YOU !!

Thanks to the great crew I had for the dinner on the 14th … Peggy, Pat, Sue, & Shim. I could have never prepared it without all the help you gave me. Our Senior Regent, Paula came in to help us out too. Peggy also took me shopping. Pat & Sue came in early Friday to make the salad and set the tables. They also were our waitresses.  Also, I would like to thank Mary Lou for her donation to the Star Recorder Committee and to Anne Prince for baking the great cakes for both meetings and to Peggy for helping me with the food after the meetings.

Our Breakfast Cooks

LOOM/Bob serves a standard breakfast but ALWAYS has a special to be announced that day.

LOOM/Judy serves her specialty which is biscuits and gravy, and Spam.

WOTM/Keith, Bridget, and Bruce serve a standard breakfast, biscuits and gravy, and an occasional special sometimes replacing the biscuits and gravy.

A standard breakfast is Eggs, with your choice of bacon, sausage, and sometimes ham depending on the cook, potatoes, and your choice of toast.

I hope this helps everyone who is looking for something special.  All of the above is subject to change without notice!  (Just to keep you on your toes!)
